Top 10 Toxic & Fake Chinese Foods To Completely Avoid
You might have seen the online outrage from people finding out about the fake rice made in China. The fake race is produced from plastic and, as hard as it is to believe, there is nothing done to stop this process.
Even the tiniest of amount of plastic has a horrific effect to your digestion and hormones. For example, a chemical commonly found in plastic called BPA can mimic estrogen, causing your hormone levels to go up through the roof. So, if you eat plastic rice, you are only exposing yourself to a higher risk of breast cancer.
However, this is not the first instance of something being artificially produced in China, which is why most people avoid food produced in China. And it’s not only the ingredients that you have to worry about. When you eat food made in China, you have to keep in mind that the food was not only produced in an artificial and cheap ways, but it is also being shipped from the far corners of the world, during which anything can happen. Their common practice of producing cheap plastic products might be a good idea for electronics and toys, but it certainly isn’t when it comes to food.
1. Mud (or Black Pepper as they label it):
There was an instance of a Chinese seller who sold the mud he collected as black pepper. And it didn’t stop here. The same seller sold flour as white pepper! This basically means that you can call any product you sell whatever you want, especially since there are no strict food and safety regulation bodies in China (not that ours in America do the best job either).
Code is farmed massively in China. The cod fish is known to dwell in its own waste and it’s definitely a healthy choice. This fact is even more alarming when you consider that over 50% of cod fish in the US is imported from China.
Just like cod fish, about 50% of the apple juice found in the US shops is imported from China, which is very worrying considering the fact that the HIGHEST pesticide producer in the world is China, where the use of pesticide and chemicals in food isn’t quite addressed. That’s why you should stay away from apple juice but use other types which you can mix with vegetable juices (to avoid too much sugar intake).
Tilapia is another fish that is commonly farmed in China. The Tilapias are one of the most toxic and unhealthy fish that you can buy, since they eat anything they can find, just like the bottom-feeders, and they are usually farmed in small pools of waste water. Tilapia is probably one of the worst choices when it comes to fish, and it is a well-known fact that even the Chinese fish farmers don’t ever feed it to their children and families. About 80% of the US Tilapia supply is imported from China.
Instances of tainted garlic from China were found by US food inspectors, who discovered that the China garlic was heavily sprayed with chemicals, giving it a bad, chemical aftertaste. About 31% of the US garlic supply is imported from China.
Mushrooms were yet another food from China that was found to be tainted. And that’s not all. There were even instances of Chinese mushroom manufacturers who intentionally labeled their mushrooms as “organic”, just so they can sell more. If you do some googling, you’ll see that there are many search results of “mysterious mushrooms” from China, that are entirely synthetic. About 34% of the US supply of processed mushrooms is shipped from China.
7. Green Peas:
There was an instance in 2005 when green peas from China were found to be made by using soy beans, snow peas, sodium metabisulfite (a chemical preservative and bleacher), and green dye which was known to cause cancer and impede the body’s calcium absorption. When you put these “green peas” in a pot and boiled them, you would see your water becoming green. The bottom line – don’t buy green peas from China!
The Department of Agriculture gave the approval for selling Chinese chicken in the US, in 2013. After the approval, many food safety experts expressed their concerns about the meat quality, as China is known for its food-borne illnesses and avian influenza, both of which are common there. Also, China is the largest producer of pesticides, but also a country where industry caused pollution is really high.
9. Plastic Rice:
As already mentioned, there is plastic rice that is being made in China. The fake rice is believed to be made out of a fake synthetic resin and potatoes. When you try to boil the rice, it can’t be cooked like normal rice as it actually remains hard. Experts believe that using such rice could lead to cancer in the long run.
10. Industrial Salt:
Even though industrial salt is considered to be terribly harmful to human health, this didn’t prevent suppliers from selling it as table salt for 13 years! Industrial salt is known to lead to both physical and mental problems, one of the most common being reproductive system disorders and hypothyroid issues.
If you’re asking for my opinion, one of the worst food products that you can find are made in China, since not only is China the largest pesticide producer in the world, but it is also one of the most polluted countries.
Around 70% of rivers in China are polluted, the air is highly toxic, but also the mass-production that is present in China leaks a low of toxic waste and chemicals into the environment. Also, a 2015 study found that China’s capital Beijing has such a high air-pollution that even breathing alone can cause as much lung damage as smoking 40 cigarettes a day.
You should also keep in mind that it’s difficult to find out whether the food products you buy were shipped in from China. That’s why the best solution would be to buy your food from local farmers markets, and/or knowing your food supplier. Before you decide on a store or market, ask as many questions as your need and use your phone to search for products while at the store!
